A part of microbial cells would autolyzed to release the intercellular alkanedegrading enzymes when they were cultured on alkane. Thus alkane could be degraded and synthesized alkane derivative with surface activity extracellularly. This surface-active agent would improve alkane emulsifying, and those unautolyzed cells could utilize the emulsified alkane sequentially.
