What's particularly worth mentioning is a visit by Her Majesty Elizabeth II of the U.K. in 1986. Accompanied by Wu Xueqian, the State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affair then, and Ye Xuanping, the then Governor of Guangdong Province, the queen toured the park and personally planted an oak tree as a symbol of the friendship between the U.K. and China. The park , on behalf of the leaders of the country, presented the queen with a 60-year-old Murraya Bonsai , thus further boosting the park's popularity.
