Computed tomography of abdomen showed exchanged position of the superior mesenteric artery and the superior mesenteric vein. Under suspicion of intestinal obstruction, an exploratory laparotomy was performed, which confirmed the anomalous position of the colon at the right side of the abdominal cavity. Although usually an incidental finding, it is important to diagnose such a malrotation because it may cause acute abdominal symptoms.

Results: Although most cases (11/16) were typical and clearly classified on MRI, atypical cases were also observed, such as meningioma of long T1/T2 signal intensity with small cystic foci, and neurinoma of iso intensity and homogenous enhancement without cystic change or enlargement of internal acoustic meatus.
