The first part of this research was to investigate anti-oxidant abilities of Boehmeria nivea leaf and root. Different extraction methods, drying conditions as well as far infrared were applied to measure their effects on anti-oxidant abilities of Boehmeria nivea leaf and root. Results showed that 95% ethanol extracts of fresh leaves and roots demonstrate the highest anti-oxidant components(total contents of phenol compounds and flavonoids)and scavenging abilities free radical scavengingABTS(2,2'-azinobis[3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6- sulfonic acid]and DPPH (α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl) free radical , followed by hot water and cold water extraction.

The free radical scavenging properties of six Aloe species are to be investigated in some modified chemical system. The antioxidant was purified by silica column and thin layer chromatography and analyzed by HPLC. A fraction was purified from A. brevifolia Mill showed the most effective scavenging activities on 〓 and ·OH (66. 01% and 38. 98% respectively). With the analysis of IR spectrum, UV spectrum and mass spectrum, the structure of FA was identifed as 8-C-D-glucopyranosyl-2- [2-hydroxy] propyl-5-methyl-7-hydroxychromone. Its scavenging activity on free radicals is higher than that of aloe-emodin. Its antioxidant activity may be due to the phenoxyl on glucosyl chromone which can be react with free radicals and form relatively stable free radicals.

The anti-microbial activity of active materials against valsa mail,fusarium oxysporum,coniothyrium diplodieua and aspergillus nidulans were measured in vitro.the results showed that active materials extracted using acetone,aether and petroleum ether presented fungistasis to different extent on the four pathogenic fungi and had the best effect to coniothyrium diplodieua.active material extracted using ethanol presented certain anti-microbial effect to fusarium oxysporum.the results also showed there were anti-microbial active material in the leaves of cichorium intybus and founded a base on the research and application.
