This paper reports the electron microscopic evidence showing that V. cholerae 01 and 0139 serogroups can express at least 4 types of pili when incubated at 28℃ on AKI agar or CFA (pH6.8). Among the four types, three can be expressed by classical and El Tor strains of Vibrio cholerae 01: TcpA pili are peritrichous,being 7-8nm in diameter, 5-10μm in length, and form bundles of parallel undulating filaments of 0.5-0.8 μm wide and 10-15μm long; Type B are 3-4nm in diameter, up to 2μm long, and of wavy morphology; Type C are 7-8nm wide and 0.5-0.8μm long.
