The work in the second year's project had resulted in two primary successes. One is to analyze the field data of wave and wind collected from August 1993 to May 1994, acquire the short time characteristic and the cross correlation between wind and wave in Mir-Tuor area. The other is to consult with Central Weather Bureau to get the waves data observing in Hsiao-Liu-Chiu and Dong-Chi-Yu. Cross correlation analysis was applied to analyze the relationship of the waves between Mir-Tuor and Hsiao-Liu-Chiu area, and between Mir-Tuor and Dong-Chi-Yu area. It indicates good cross correlation of waves between Mir-Tuor and Hsiao-Liu-Chiu area.
本年度为五年期计画之第二年子计画,主要工作成果有二:一是搜集82年8月至83年5月现场波浪及风速资料进行分析,得到弥陀地区短期波浪特性,以及风、浪之相关性;二是协调气象局提供小琉球与东吉岛波浪测站之同步观测资料,并且分别与弥陀波浪资料进行交叉相关分析,探讨弥陀、小琉球,与弥陀、东吉岛波浪之相关性。

Thus, for three tropical cyclones occurred on different regions, three sets of altimeter-derived data of the sea surface wind and wave are selected, their structural features and relations between the wind and the wave under the influence of the tropical cyclones are analyzed respectively, finally, the most frequent occurring relations between the sea surface wind and the wave of the tropical cyclone over the South China Sea and two hindcast methods for wind field of typhoon based on altimeter-derived wind speed are presented.

Evidence suggests that 1 under more stable stratification, the basic flow, if moving faster at low and high levels (particularly in the presence of jets there), allows a resulting meso-β unsteady wave to propagate eastward with respect to basic flow and even at greater velocity compared with it; 2 vertical windspeed shear of basic flow causes instabilities of the TWT perturbation; 3 considering the second derivative of basic-flow wind with respect to z (denoted by zz≠ 0 which is simply given as β* hereafter) the expression for the phase velocity of vortex Rossby wave is obtained, which is unidirectional in propagation with respect to basic flow; 4 VRoW has its physical origin from β*, i.e., from z-varying heterogeneities of y-direction averaged vorticity of the basic flow field; 5 VRoW phase velocity is associated with zonal wave number k, its energy is dispersive and the group velocity exists in the x direction; 6 when windspeed meets the condition of β*, TWT disturbance instability may be that of mixed VRoW and gravity wave; 7 if basic flow is subject to linear shear but does not meet the condition of β*, the TWT instability is that of inertia-gravity wave.

The results show that when gravity wave's propagating in the homogenous winds, the nonlinearity is stronger in the fair wind than in the contrary wind, the background winds change the propagation velocity and path, and when gravity wave's propagating in the homogenous winds, the vertical wavelength decreases, the average upgoing energy flux reduces which implies the ambient winds absorb the energy of the wave, realizes coupling of the different atmosphere layers.
