Methods: The hair samples were collected from 41 youth of Chinese Han in Shanghai. The amino acid makeup was analyzed by amino acid analyzer. The outer surface and cross section of hair were observed. The radial swelling of hair was determined by polarizing microscope. The tensile study of hair fiber was performed by mechanical testing machine.
