The obtainted quantitatively statistical results of the assemblages of the quartz grain surface textures formed by the chemical erosion precipitation are well correlated to the analytical results of mineral X ray diffraction and micropaleontology and can better explain the changes of sedimentary environment and paleoclimate which the marine zone concerned underwent.

Distribution of biogenic silica content in surface sediments from deep water areas showed that it could not only reflect the paleoproductivity of siliceous micropaleontology in surface waters, but also indicate the strong or feeble upwelling. Thus, it was further confirmed that using biogenic silica content in sediments to trace upwelling and its change was effective and reliable. The analyzed result showed that radiolaria and poriferous specula have more contribution for biogenic opal, comparing with diatom in surface sediments from the northern studied area, probably owing to the diatom dissolved easily away and eaten by other organisms with little effort.

An image fusion method based on HSI transform and Laplace decomposition is proposed for multi-focus micropaleontology image fusion.Firstly images to be fused are transformed into HSI,then the I component is decomposed by using Laplacian.The high-frequency and low-frequency images are fused respectively based on Robert grads and region weighted average.Last the fused image is obtained by inversing HSI transformation.

首先对待融合的图像进行HSI变换，用Laplace算子对图像的I分量进行多级分解，分解后的低频分量和高频分量分别采用基于Robert梯度和区域加权均值的融合规则进行融合，最后再进行HSI反变换得到融合图像。

The CLIMAP 18k bp sediment data files were compiled by Oregon State University. The files contain micropaleontology in the form of faunal counts of diatoms, planktonic foraminifera, coccoliths, and radiolaria, as well as stratigraphy (percent fine, coarse, total carbonate, oxygen 18 and carbon 13), and geochemistry (percent opal, quartz, and organic carbon), and inferred sea surface temperatures for 635 ocean sediment cores.
