本文的主要内容包括四个方面：物流园区的内涵与特征分析，分析物流园区的概念、功能及分类，研究物流园区与物流系统及经济社会发展的关系；物流园区发展现状及需求分析，借鉴国外先进的物流园区建设模式，及我国三大经济区物流园区发展模式，在分析海峡西岸经济区经济发展现状的基础上，预测福建省物流需求状况；物流园区空间布局结构问题研究，以物流园区所依托的城市为研究对象，分析物流园区空间布局载体类型划分的标准和原则，从全省、各市和各区三个层次提出物流园区布局载体的划分方式；物流园区建设工作机制和政策措施研究。
