No doubt the chef got the inspiration of this dish from another french classic, the beef bourguignon, and the sauce did go along with the rice quite well; however, on retrospect, I do think that the sauce was made a bit too salty, and the spare ribs also made the dish much more heavy and greasier than it should be (not a bad choice for dinner if you are really starving, I guess).
