Using a long-term reared housefly population which is very susceptible to pyrethroid insecticides as the susceptible strain, a population collected in 1993 in Shanghai and has been treaded by cyhalothrin as the resistant strain, we bioassayed their susceptibility to organophosphorus, carbamate, pyrethroid and organehloride insecticides. We also investigated the role of metabolic enzymes, i. e. esterase, GST, MFO and of target enzymes, i. e. AChE and 〓-ATPase in resistance to insecticides. Cyhalothrin resistance inheritance, the co-toxicity coefficient of cyhalothrin and methylene dithiocyanate was also studied. The insecticides resistance in adults and larvae of houseflies was compared and the mechanism of resistance differences between adults and larvae was discussed.

The common chemical constituents were juniper camphor,1,3,3-trimethylcyclohex-1-ene-4-carboxaldehyde,borneol,α-curcumene,α-bisabolol,cis-caryophyllene,benzyl benzoate,methyl β,β-dimethylbenzenepropanoic acid ester,2,4-decadienal and heneicosane in the essential oil of the five cultivars' Hangjuhua.Among them,juniper camphor is most which were composed of 11.96%,10.51%,10.95%,13.28% and 10.77% of the total essential oil,and methyl β,β-dimethylbenzenepropanoic acid ester is second,which were composed of 1.51%,1.86%,2.52%,4.89% and 2.51% of the total essential oil,respectively.

The result showed that there was significant botanical character difference among the three varieties of rosemary; the content of essential oil of Rosmarinus officinalis L is higher than that of Rosmarinus officinalis 'Rex' and Rosmarinus officinalis 'Wood' with 0.80, 0.46 and 0.40 mL(100g)^(-1)FW respectively;α-pinene、1,8-cineole、verbenone、geraniol and borneol were the main compositions of essential oil from Rosmarinus officinalis L, with 27.26%, 20.92%, 11.75%, 5.92% and 5.07% respectively; the major components of essential oil of Rosmarinus officinalis 'Rex' were 1,8-cineole、camphor、borneol、α-pinene and camphene, accounting for 31.07%, 21.66%, 11.98%, 5.36% and 5.34% respectively; in Rosmarinus officinalis 'Wood', camphor、1,8-cineole、bornyl acetate、borneol、α-pineneand camphene were the major compositions with 24.69%, 23.96%, 6.76%, 5.94%, 5.80% and 5.28% respectively.
