With the following four basic teaching materials Beyer, Czerny Elementary Course op. 599 for the Piano Beginners, John Thompson 憇 Modern Piano Course and Microcosm as the object of study, the present paper makes a comparative analysis and study of them from the perspectives such as the structure and content, the progression arrangement, musicality and interest. Based upon this, this paper systematically induces the features of these four courses together with their respective merits and demerits, thus objectively judging their respective stature in the artistic history of piano and their value in the piano instruction.
