Hydrophobic-hydrophilic macroporous polydivinylbenzene/polyacrylethylenediamine interpenetrating polymer networks (PDVB/PAEM IPN) were prepared by the sequential suspension polymerization method. These were composed of two networks, of which one was hydrophobic and the other was hydrophilic. The objective of this work was to study the adsorption thermodynamics and adsorption kinetics of this hydrophobic- hydrophilic IPN. The focus was on adsorption isotherms of vanillin at different temperatures, and these fit well into the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The isosteric adsorption enthalpy, adsorption Gibbs free energies and the adsorption entropy could be calculated according to thermodynamic functions.

The results show that the maximum growth quantity of Nocardia can be achieved after culturing 120 h and obvious selective adsorption of Nocardia on the surface of pyrite and sphalerite can be detected. The maximum adsorption rate on the surface of pyrite is 96.99%, whereas it is less than 20% in the case of sphalerite. Adsorption equilibrium can be attained within 20 min on the surfaces of the two minerals. pH value is the key factor influencing upon selective adsorption, and the difference of adsorption quantity on the surfaces of two minerals is apparent when pH is between 4 and 10. By comparison of eight micro adsorption, A resin with high adsorption rate and eluent rate was used to adsorb chlorogenic acid from extraction solution. At the heavy metal concentration of 3-4ppm, our study on adsorption capacity, adsorption selectivity of montmorillonite, illite and kaolinite to Cu〓、 Pb〓、 Zn〓、 Cd〓、 Cr〓 shows that the adsorption capacity is mainly determined by the capacity of exchangeable cations and the adsorption capacity of the three clay minerals decreases in this sequence: montmorillonite ＞＞ illite＞kaolinite.
