At the closing ceremonies for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he gave a performance based on the theme of traditional China directed by renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou. In 2006, at the New York Metropolitan Opera, he danced the lead in "The First Emperor", directed by Zhang Yimou and set to a score by Tan Dun.
