Malaysian Tzu Chi volunteers from the Wellesley Province cities of Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam, Nibong Tebal and Bukit Tambun, recently convened a large-scale vegetarian charity bazaar to raise funding for Tzu Chi's medical, charity and educational missions. With around 200 booths, 1,500 volunteers came to lend a helping hand. Among them were one couple, who, after attending last year's fair, were each deeply stirred by the volunteers' selfless work, and so returned this time to participate in the event by selling pasta to help raise money for the needy.

Singapore Tzu Chi volunteers have been caring for HIV/AIDS patients for more than a decade. A gathering is convened every two months for the patients to have the chance to encourage each other. Among them was an Indonesia woman who, upon her marriage, emigrated to Singapore. Suffering from HIV/AIDS, she was once in despair, but her contact with Tzu Chi also led her to finding an emotional outlet and a different life. Now the woman hopes to recontribute by becoming a member of the local recycling station.

In Thailand, Tzu Chi care recipient Tee, from Klong Toey, Bangkok, has been battling breast cancer for two years. The 58-year-old woman was unable to work after coming down with the disease, and her entire savings were spent on treatment. To make ends meet, Tee began selling bread, but was only able to make about one US dollar a day. Thankfully, Tzu Chi volunteers stepped in to help, paying her travel expenses to the hospital, and even repairing her leaky roof to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season.
