By analyzing the Decameron through asceticism, Brancaccio inherited humanism in ancient Roman and tragic spirits in ancient Greece. First, he had strong epochal character. Many Greek tragedies were about myth themes but mirrored the social life in Athens at that time, while the Decameron represented a variety of social contradictions and emotional conflicts in Europe during that time through successive tragedies. Second, he was concerned much about human's moral behaviors. He held that people should be distinguished by their morality.
