The time and frequency of the polecat searching different preys and burrows were nearly the same. The polecat attacked virtually all prey offered and thus exhibited opportunistic foraging behaviour. However, it did not captured all prey with equal sequence. It first captured the zokor, then the pika and last for the root vole. In addition to using the typical musteline killing method of biting the nape of the neck, the polecat evolved a variety of killing methods suited to a range of prey types depending on the activity, size and anti-predation ability of prey. The zokor was bitten on the head, whereas the pika was killed by bites to the head or throat and the root vole was killed by bites to the head or chest. The time polecats pursued the root vole was the longest, followed by that used in pursuing the pika and the zokor.

The results showed that the heavy metals in various mediums were mainly Cu and Ni, and those concentrations were, in the descending order, in ditch, tailings, slagheap and cultivated soil. In the tailings and the sludge of the ditch, the concentrations of Ni were obviously higher than those of Cu. Whereas, in the soil and the weathering and atmospheric deposition of the waste slagheap surface, the concentrations of Cu were higher than those of Ni. This means that in the first two mediums, Cu and Ni mainly originated from the tailings, while in the latter two mediums, Cu and Ni mainly came from the atmospheric deposition of airborne particles of the smelting. Cr and Zn were mainly in residual fraction, Cu was mainly in oxidizable and residual fraction.

Salidroside content was 2.147%, the highest in Rh. sacra from Tibet, then in Rh. crenulata and Rh. tibetica from Tibet, 1.763% and 1.271%, respectively; tyrosol content was 0.2985%, the highest in Rh. crenulata from Sichuan, then in Rh. tibetica and Rh. crenulata from Tibet, 0.2143% and 0.1836%, respectively; whereas both contents were very low in Rh. jistigiata and Rh. kirilowii from Sichuan with salidroside contents of only 0.034% and 0.003%, and tyrosol contents of 0.0164% and 0.0048%,respectively.
