For hydrogen embrittlement, impact toughness and fracture toughness of the alloy showed higher sensitivity than the tensile test elongation,so the toughness should be used as a new standard for the assessment of the embrittlement. Vanadium alloys were easily oxidized in air.

In this paper, a new technology of laser transformation hardening which could replace the present method of gear case hardening is introduced. Its significant and economic value are analyzed. The key techniques of laser transformation hardening gear , such as surface pretreatment coating and its methods, laser scanning pattern, are discussed in detail.
