黄石公园最为奇特的是它的地热现象:滲入地下的泉水被在地层 3 - 5 英里之下熔岩层加热以后通过多孔岩石层被送到地面从而形成了热喷泉 (Hot Spring) ,间歇泉 (Geyser) ,热泥锅 (Mudpot) ,和喷气孔 (Fumarole) 等丰富的地热现象.
